The Little Pine Lodge on Main Street in downtown Mitchell is a pet-friendly, conveniently located place to stay when you’re visiting the Mitchell area. It is located only 9 miles from the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, which is one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon. The Ochoco National Forest is about 10 miles from the Lodge. The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center is located at the Sheep Rock Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, which is about 30 miles east of Mitchell. And the Clarno Unit is near Fossil, the county seat, about 47 miles away. Fossil is home to the only public fossil field in Oregon where fossils of animals and plants, such as the Metasequoia, can be found. It is located behind Wheeler High School.

 Be sure to visit the Gift Shop located on the street level of the Little Pine Lodge. The Lodge is also home to the Mitchell Sentinel, Mitchell’s very own monthly newspaper!

The Little Pine Lodge, which is available through Airbnb, is open year-round. The Gift Shop on the street level is only open during Mitchell’s tourist season, which begins in March and runs through October.
